The Green Room is my sanctuary space. It is where I retreat to feel safe, rested, recharged and creative.

I believe everyone should have a sanctuary space and that no two will ever look/feel the same. My sanctuary is full of low-maintenance houseplants and all the vinyl records that I’ve collected over the years. Music and plants are two things that have sustained me during the hardest times of my life, but have also been integral to some of the best times of my life. I wanted my sanctuary to reflect the peace/joy that these things bring. I made it a rule to do no work in my space and to share it with as many people as possible because I think the best things are enjoyed in community with one another.

Click the links below and spend a day with me in the Green Room through this playlist I created in collaboration with @SimpleWednesday—a passionate community that focuses on the connection of people with all backgrounds, who speak the universal love language of music!

About the playlist:

I like to start my mornings early catching the “Magic Hour,” watching the sun dance throughout my space. Then I set my intentions for the day with Amber Mark’s “Worth It,” as she sings, “Just open up the ceiling, come on, let the love in, ‘cause, baby, you are worth it.”

By late morning, my energy is starting to bubble up and whether I’m cleaning or creating, or both, I love to pick up the pace with live instrumentation—think Masego and Brasstracks—followed by some Afrobeat. Baby, Tems’ “If Orange Was a Place” LP has had a death grip on me since it released! When the sun hits high noon, it’s time to turn up a bit with home team, Dreamville, and my country cousin, Isaiah Rashad.

By late afternoon, I’m usually ready to elevate with the good sis Tiara Thomas and a session wouldn’t be right without some West Coast in the mix. As Eric Bellinger sings, “Hand me my grinder, girl it’s time to get away. Baby sit back relax as I put on your favorite songs, you know I got ‘em all.”

And finally, no day is complete without a wind down. Dixson and India Shawn ain’t scared to take it there with lyrics like, “Enter in the temple. I say a prayer with my body. You say goodbye to ego. Treat me like an equal. Steady with the tempo.”

Come catch a vibe!
